Srinagar, October 24, 2019 (PPI-OT): The United Nations, established in 1945 to promote international cooperation and resolve world conflicts, has miserably failed to settle the Kashmir dispute despite the passage of more than seven decades.
A report released by the Research Section of Kashmir Media Service on the United Nations Day, today, maintained that the World Body had passed several resolutions on Kashmir pledging that the people of Kashmir would be granted their inalienable right to self-determination through plebiscite. The report said that India had accepted these resolutions and promised to give the Kashmiris an opportunity to decide their fate by themselves but later backtracked from its commitments.
The report maintained that Indian troops in their unabated acts of state terrorism in occupied Kashmir had killed 95,463 innocent people including 7,134 in fake encounters or custody since 1989 till date. It said that since 5th August, 2019, when India revoked the Kashmir’s special status, the troops had killed 27 innocent Kashmiris and injured 693 others. The report added that 11,348 people including Hurriyat leaders, activists, young boys, traders, civil society members and political leaders had been arrested since 5th August. The report said that Indian troops carried out 2,237 cordon and search operations during the period.
Meanwhile, people of the Kashmir Valley and Muslim majority areas of Jammu region continue to suffer due to Indian military siege, which entered 81st running day, today. People continue to observe silent protest against Indian occupation by remaining indoors and keeping shops and business establishments closed. Students and employees desist from going to schools and offices, while public remains off the roads. Prepaid phone and internet remains suspended.
The All Parties Hurriyat Conference spokesman while describing the recent statement of Governor, Satya Pal Malik, as ridiculous has said that the sacrifices of Hurriyat leaders and their kith and kin for the Kashmir cause remain unparalleled as well as unforgettable. The spokesman in a statement issued in Srinagar said that the intention of the Governor was to defame the Hurriyat leadership and discredit them in the eyes of general masses.
Illegally detained Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, Muhammad Yasin Malik, appeared before a court in Jammu via video conferencing in a fake case registered against him about three decades ago. The JKLF Chairman was represented by his lawyer, who submitted his arguments in the court.
On the other hand, India held local body elections in the territory, today, amid a boycott by almost all political parties, which termed the exercise as undemocratic. The drama was staged despite thousands of people, including three former puppet chief ministers remain in detention since 5th of August.
