To make the National Polio Eradication Campaign successful is to hold responsible the administrative heads of the district concerned where polio cases are reported despite of the completion of Polio Campaign

Islamabad: Chairman Intellectual Property Organization (IPO) and Member National Assembly Hameed Ullah Jan Afridi has said that the only way to make the National Polio Eradication Campaign successful is to hold responsible the administrative heads of the district concerned where polio cases are reported despite of the completion of Polio Campaign.

He said below average performance should be registered in the Annual Confidential Reports (ACR’s) of such Administrative Officers who had been failed to ensure hundred percent coverage of the administration of polio drops in their respective areas.

He made this observation while giving recommendations in an interview about prevention of polio here today. He said that especially in the tribal areas where the situation is very critical and huge population is becoming the victim of militancy no one can easily move within the localities and approach the targeted kids to administer polio drops due to constant imposition of curfew.

He said with the assistance of Political Agents and local people, efforts were being made to make the polio vaccine accessible to the children up to the age of five years particularly in the areas where new cases of polio had been reported.

Hameed Ullah jan Afridi said that tribal’s are living a very miserable life and they don’t have even the basic necessities of life, in this situation only the local volunteers can move in the far flung difficult areas which are located under the range of mortar shelling and this option is being opted to save the future of our young generation.

Replying to a question, Mr. Hameed Ullah Jan Afridi said that polio must be eradicated from the face of earth and it is a matter of grave concern that Pakistan is included among last very few countries which still have polio virus and if we do not bother about initiating solid steps we should have to face the severe consequences in future.

Hameed Ullah Jan Afridi said more commitment is required at administrative level, although PM Emergency Program moving ahead swiftly to overcome polio but the human resource is the focal component to bridge the gap and if they do not perform their duty effectively, the entire efforts would be gone in waste. He said strict system of monitoring and accountability is needed to check the performance of polio teams.
