Strict measures taken in Srinagar, Jammu in security’s name

Srinagar, July 28, 2015 (PPI-OT): Strict measures have been taken in the name of security in Jammu and Kashmir particularly in Srinagar and Jammu following a militant attack in the Gurdaspur area of the neighbouring Indian state of Punjab.

Indian police and paramilitary forces in in Srinagar and on both routes leading to the Amarnath cave shrine in Gandarbal and Islamabad and other parts including Pahalgaam and Sonamarg areas are maintaining an extra vigil. “We are taking precaution. The security has been geared up so that such incidents do not take place,” said Inspector General of Police (IGP), Syed Javaid Mujtaba Gillani.

Meanwhile, in the wake of the attack in Gurdaspur, high alert has been sounded across Jammu especially on the Working Boundary Line. “The police and paramilitary personnel were jointly monitoring the situation and strengthened security grid on Jammu-Pathankot highway,” the police said.

“The BSF men have also laid nakas on the roads leading from border villages towards the towns,” they added. Police and paramilitary personnel were conducting checking of vehicles at nakas. The security was also beefed up in sensitive areas of Samba and Kathua districts in view of past militant attacks. In Jammu city also, police have set up nakas and were searching vehicles at these points.
