Islamabad, February 23, 2022 (PPI-OT):Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser said that the incumbent Government had strived hard to achieve the targets of Sustainable Development Goals before the year 2030. He appreciated the efforts of Mr. Riaz Fatyana, Convener National Parliamentary Taskforce on SDGs, for effectively activating the Taskforce. He expressed these views while addressing the closing ceremony of 2 days’ Workshop titled “Capacity Building of Parliamentary Taskforce on SDGs”.
The objective of the workshop was to build the capacity of the Parliamentary Taskforces on SDGs to identify strategies, mechanism and partnerships to support localization and implementation of the 2030 agenda more effectively.
Referring to the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between Parliamentary taskforce on sustainable development goals (SDGs) and Parliamentary Taskforce of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Speaker said that a joint venture would also be formed with the provincial assemblies of Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan as well as Legislative Assembly of Gilgit Baltistan in order to work collectively to achieve the desired Sustainable Development Goals.
The Speaker emphasized upon the Parliamentarians to focus on provision of quality education, better health facilities and devise strategies to tackle the issues related to climate change. He said that a committee could also be formulated to oversight the work of Parliamentary Taskforce on SDGs and to give recommendations for achieving the remaining goals.
Speaker Asad Qaiser encouraged the Parliamentarians to participate in “Ten Billion Tree Tsunami Programme” following the footsteps of Khyber Pakhtunkhuwa government that was recognized by the international institutions. He also urged Speaker Gilgit Baltistan Legislative Assembly, who was also presented on the occasion, to device strategies to promote tourism in Gilgit Baltistan as it had been blessed with immense tourism potential.
Convener Task Force on SDGS Riaz Fatyana appreciated Speaker National Assembly for his support and keen interest in the capacity building of the Parliamentary Taskforce on SDGs. He assured that the taskforce will play its due role in achieving the desired goals and urged all the Parliamentarians to work with harmony and cooperation.
