School Education and Literacy Department embarks upon capacity building of teachers

Karachi, November 07, 2018 (PPI-OT): The School Education and Literacy Department, Government of Sindh, has embarked upon the capacity building of teachers who are teaching mathematics and science subjects to class V and VIII in public schools. In the first phase teachers of 4,525 model schools throughout the province are being trained. The phase one of the training started from the Karachi region in which 1,075 teachers have been nominated to attend three days training that started on November 5, 2018.

The training has been designed in collaboration with the Beacon House Private School System and will enable the teachers to see their role in achieving Students’ Learning Outcomes mentioned in the National Curriculum. It will equip the teachers to prepare the children to develop the subject based competencies through different teaching methodologies.

The Teachers’ Capacity Building Training intends to shift the present culture of rote learning and content based teaching to competency based learning through planned instructions in classroom and bring improvement in Standardised Achievement Test (SAT) which is an objective indicator of service delivery in public school system. SAT is a reform initiative of the School Education and Literacy Department to measure the education delivery at the school, district and provincial level.

The training is planned in all six divisions of Sindh for which total 35 training centers have been identified which are Government Elementary Colleges for Education (GECE) throughout the province. The principals of these GECEs are shouldering the responsibilities of Training Incharge to make available the conducive learning environment during three days training for which they have been provided with the operational guidelines for the smooth execution of the training. This initiative of the government is a solemn step towards command performance of teachers to transform the model schools holistically.
