Srinagar, December 01, 2018 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the State Administrative Council (SAC), headed by Governor, Satya Pal Malik, has cleared a proposal that renders the toothless Human Rights Commission of the territory more ineffective body. The SAC gave its nod for amending “The Jammu and Kashmir Protection of Human Rights Act” that will bar the commission to probe any complaint of human rights violation submitted one year after the incident.
“There was no such limitation period in the Act earlier. The victim could approach the rights panel even after 20, 30 years after the incident,” an official told media men in Srinagar. The other amendment, he said, makes it mandatory on part of the authorities to inform the Commission within three months about the action taken on its recommendations.
