Provision of Fundamental Rights to Children Would Ensure Bright Future for the Country: NA Speaker

Islamabad, August 16, 2022 (PPI-OT): Speaker National Assembly Raja Pervaiz Ashraf has said that Pakistan is a country blessed with a major portion of the youth population and the provision of fundamental rights to our youth would ensure a bright future for the country. He said that it is our collective responsibility to ensure fundamental rights of education, health and security for our children.

He also said that the bright future of the country is interlinked with our vibrant youth. He expressed these views while inaugurating the first ever child convention held in connection with Diamond Jubilee celebration of the 1st constituent Assembly in National Assembly Hall today.

While mentioning the significance of children to ensure a bright future for the country, he said that there is a need to secure every child so that he or she can be a productive part of our society. He said that the next seventy-five years would be built by these children and this convention would make our children well aware of our Parliamentary democracy.

He said that the Parliament of Pakistan would continue to strive for legislation for children’s rights. He said that there is an urgent need to end child labour and child harassment by enacting strict laws. While appreciating the Services of Sweet Homes to support our needy children, He stressed the need to support such cause.

While mentioning various initiatives of the National Assembly Secretariat for engaging youth like youth internship and visits of school and children to Parliament House, the Speaker said that engaging children in legislative matters would make them feel ownership of this system.

During the children’s convention, children of all segments of schools asked questions regarding their important issues and Parliamentarians replied to these questions. The issues related to child Labour, Single National Curriculum, Child Harassment, and lack of health and education opportunities. The children also delivered speeches on diverse topics. All Participants praised the initiative of Speaker National Assembly Raja Pervez Ashraf for inviting children for the first time to Parliament House.

A unanimous declaration was also adopted where it was re-affirmed that our children are assets and we would continue to protect our children. It was also committed that children would be provided all fundamental rights to ensure our bright future. The Convention on Children was attended by Parliamentarians and a large number of children from government and private sector schools.
