People cannot be left at mercy of profiteers: Shahbaz Sharif

Lahore, September 07, 2016 (PPI-OT):Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has directed to take effective measures for maintaining stability in the prices of daily use items and added that concerned institutions should play their active role in this regard. He said that increase in the prices daily use items including flour will not be tolerated. Indiscriminate action should be taken against profiteers and hoarders, he added.

He was addressing a meeting of Provincial Cabinet Committee on Price Control at Civil Secretariat through video link. The meeting reviewed in detail the measures regarding prices of essential items and their stability in the province. Shahbaz Sharif said that interest of the people is very dear to him and provision of daily use commodities at fixed rate to the people is our responsibility. He said that people cannot be left on the mercy of profiteers.

The Chief Minister directed that indiscriminate action should be taken against profiteers and hoarders before Eid-ul-Azha and Food and Industries Departments should play their active role for stabilizing the prices of necessary items. He said that Cabinet Committee on Price Control and administration should keep a vigilant eye on prices of essential items and all divisional commissioners and DCOs should take effective steps in their districts in this regard.

He directed to evolve a comprehensive strategy for the release of wheat. Acting Secretary Food gave a detailed briefing regarding wheat and food while Secretary Industries briefed the meeting regarding prices and stock of wheat and other essential items. Provincial Minister Rana Sanaullah, Dr. Farrukh Javed, Dr. Ayesha Ghaus Pasha, Chief Secretary, Additional Chief Secretary and secretaries of concerned departments besides senior officials participated in the meeting from Civil Secretariat through video link.
