Pakistan National Commission for UNESCO asked to adopt vision of collaboration with Int’l community

Islamabad, December 16, 2013 (PPI-OT): Minister of State for Education, Training and Standards in Higher Education, Eng Baleeghur Rehman here on Monday asked the Pakistan National Commission for UNESCO (PNCU) to adopt the vision of collaboration with international community to meet their goals.

The Minister visited the PNCU office which is working as a sub department under the Ministry of Education, to review the functioning, programmes and performance of this department. Secretary Ministry of Education, Training and Standards in Higher Education, Ahmad Buksh Lehri, Ms. Amna Imran Khan, Head of PNCU, Muhammad Dawood, Deputy Secretary General and other officials of the organization was present on the occasion. The Minister was given a detailed briefing on the role, performance and achievements of PNCU and issues confronting to it.

Minister of State, Balighur Rehman said the PNCU should primarily focus on collaboration and coordination with the international community and make Pakistan’s voice heard in the world through various programmes.

He directed that PNCU may be transformed into a semi governmental autonomous body for the betterment of its performance. He also instructed that proper report should be submitted by the officers, who attend conferences and other functions at international level so that the recommendations and suggestions may be incorporated for the greater good of the education and other relevant sectors in Pakistan.

He appreciated and expressed his satisfaction on the performance of Pakistani delegation at UNESCO general and International Islamic Organization for Education, Science and Culture (ISESCO) conferences respectively

The officials of the PNCU shared their vision, mission, thematic areas and issues related to education, science, culture, social and human sciences, communication and information etc.

They said that PNCU works to fulfil Pakistan’s obligation as a member state to contribute to the development of UNESCO/ISESCO programmes and strategic priorities to represent and promote Pakistan’s interest and contribute to the building of peace, eradication of poverty, sustainable development and intercultural dialogue.
