Pakistan-China Joint Working Group for joint working relationship in hydropower projects in Pakistan

Islamabad, August 28, 2015 (PPI-OT):A six members Pak China joint working committee would be constituted to submit its proposal within two weeks for MoU, between WAPDA and Three Georges South Asia Investment Limited for the joint working relationship in hydropower projects in Pakistan. The decision was taken during a meeting between Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Minister for Water and Power and Dr. Lu Guojon, Chairman Board of China Three Gorges International Corporation.

In the meeting Mr Zafar Muhammad, Chairman WAPDA and senior official of the Ministry were also there to assist the Minister. The Chines companies have shown interest in the upper Indus Cascade for the hydropower development, particularly, thakot, Patten and Bunji.

Speaking on the occasion the Minister reiterated the government commitment for solving the energy crisis on priority basis. He assured full support on behalf of Government of Pakistan and issued instruction to Chairman WAPDA to facilitate the Chinese companies in all respect. The Minister also lauded the Chinese Government assistant in infrastructure development in Pakistan and expressed his full confidence that the CPEC would bring the whole region in integration and this would be a source of progress and prosperity for around half of the world population.
