KU students remember martyr professor Rafi

Srinagar, May 07, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the students and scholars of Kashmir University’s Sociology Department on Tuesday assembled to pay glorious tributes to Professor Rafi on his first martyrdom anniversary. A large number of students spoke on this occasion on the theme “We Remember! We Resist!”, which was organized by the students of the department in memory of the martyr Professor. He was martyred by Indian troops on May 6, last year, in Shopian.

“We had planned yesterday to organise this sit in but we couldn’t make it as university was off. Prof. Rafi is our hero and a role model. He is our inspiration. We will miss him throughout the life but definitely, he stood for a collective and a right cause, and we pledge to support that cause come what may,” said a protesting student.

Rafi was awarded the PhD by Kashmir University in November 2017, on his thesis on ‘Globalisation and Emerging Trends in Consumerism: A Comprehensive Study of Rural and Urban Kashmir’ and was appointed as an assistant professor in the Department of Sociology. Rafi had qualified the National Eligibility Test (NET) twice and was also a Junior Research Fellow (JRF).
