Srinagar, November 23, 2018 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, a delegation of Norway led by former Prime Minister, Kjell Magne Bondevik, called on the Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) at the Hyderpora residence of APHC Chairman, Syed Ali Gilani in Srinagar, today. During the meeting, Syed Ali Gilani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, apprised the delegation of the gross human rights violations being perpetrated by Indian troops in the territory. Muhammad Yasin Malik could not attend the meeting due to being under detention.
The leaders told the delegation that the people of Kashmir were facing difficulties and massive human rights violations due to the lingering Kashmir dispute. The draconian laws including Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) and Public Safety Act (PSA) have usurped all the rights of the people, they added.
They informed the delegates that the people of Kashmir wanted peaceful permanent settlement of the dispute under the UN resolutions and in accordance with the aspirations of the Kashmiri people. They said Norway is a country which plays an effective role in resolving the world disputes, adding that it should also come forward and stop the Indian brutalities and help settle the Kashmir dispute.
The members of the delegation told the JRL leaders that they also wanted settlement of the dispute in accordance with the wishes of the Kashmiri people, adding that their country would try its best to bring India and Pakistan on the negotiation table so that a meaningful dialogue could be started to resolve the dispute amicably.
The JRL also appealed to the people of occupied Kashmir to completely boycott the upcoming third phase of panchayat elections to be held tomorrow (Saturday) and give a message to India and the world community that the Kashmiris had no interest in the sham polls but wanted the right to self-determination.
Meanwhile, a delegation of Jammu and Kashmir salvation Movement led by its Chairman Zaffar Akbar Bhat also held a meeting with Kjell Magne Bondevik in Srinagar, today. Hailing the role of Norway in resolving conflicts across the globe, Zaffar Bhat urged the former Norway PM to help end the ongoing bloodshed of the Kashmiris at the hands of the Indian troops and facilitate a dialogue process between all stakeholders for finding a peaceful and lasting solution to the lingering Kashmir dispute.
