Srinagar, September 05, 2018 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the High Court Bar Association (HCBA) has strongly condemned the arrest and detention of Advocate Hussain Rashid of Shiva Pazalpora area of Sopore by the Indian police. The HCBA in a statement issued in Srinagar said that Advocate Hussain Rashid was picked up from his home by the police during the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, and since then was in illegal captivity.
The statements said that Advocate Hussain Rashid, practicing at the High Court, Srinagar, since 2014, got married on 26th of August 2018, but within seven days of his marriage, was arrested by police in Sopore without any reason. “His father Abdul Rashid Mir, who is a retired government teacher, had approached the police, many a times, for allowing him to meet his son but his requests were turned down without assigning any reason,” it said.
The HCBA while terming the arrest and detention of Advocate Hussain Rashid a flagrant violation of law and also against the decisions of Indian Supreme Court, which requires the police personnel carrying out the arrest and handling the interrogation of the arrestee to inform him the grounds of his arrest.
Since the police have violated the directions of the Supreme Court with impunity, the Bar Association, therefore, demands that the detention of Advocate Hussain Rashid should be brought to an end forthwith and he must be released unconditionally from the unlawful detention, the statement said. It warned that the Bar Association will bring the matter into the notice of the High Court if Hussain Rashid was not released.
