Srinagar, August 06, 2016 (PPI-OT):In occupied Kashmir, a group of Kashmiri writers on Saturday called for a peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute while demanding the Indian forces to refrain from shedding more human blood in the territory.
As many as 45 Kashmiri writers, poets and intellectuals in a joint statement issued in Srinagar strongly condemned the authorities and the trigger-happy Indian armed forces for unleashing a reign of terror and suppression against the innocent and unarmed people of Kashmir. While demanding resolution of the Kashmir dispute, they said that the world had declared Kashmir a disputed matter and an unresolved problem to be addressed between the people of Kashmir, Pakistan and India, in accordance with the wishes of the Kashmiri people. “Needless to say that there is not a single independent country in the world which has ever accepted Kashmir to be a part of India,” they added.
They said, “The fraternity of Kashmiri writers demands that the Indian forces be asked to refrain from shedding more human blood and from committing deplorable atrocities on unarmed and peaceful protestors in Kashmir and stop use of pellet gunfire forthwith. It is urgent that a political solution be found to the dispute before it is too late.”
The signatories of the statement include Professor Rehman Rahi, Professor Hamid Kashmiri, Ghulam Nabi Khayal, Professor G R Malik, Professor Marghoob Banehali, Rafiq Raaz, Zareef Ahmad Zareef, Noor Shah, Professor Shafi Shouq, Professor Gulshan Majeed, Professor Naseem Shifai, Professor Nilofar Naaz Nehvi, Professor Shaad Ramzan, Professor Farooq Fayaz, Professor Nazir Azad, Professor Shafaq Sopori, Shujaat Bukhari, Rukhsana Jabeen, G N Shaheen, Khalid Basheer, Bashir Aarif, Shabnam Qayoom, Sultan-ul-Haq Shaheedi, Shahbaaz Haakbaari and Nazir Jehangir.
