Islamabad, December 31, 2014 (PPI-OT): The Minister for Interior chaired a meeting of the NACTA Executive Committee here today. The meeting was attended by Chief Secretaries, Home Secretaries and Chiefs of Provincial CTDs and concerned Federal Secretaries.

The National Action Plan to counter terrorism, extremism and militancy was discussed. The All Parties Conference on war on terror manifests complete political support. A national consensus between all parties the military and civilian institutions to confront terrorism has been forged.

The Minister said that this war was being fought for preservation of the state and cannot be won without complete ownership, shared responsibility and coordination between federal and provincial governments and the Armed Forces.

The Prime Minister formed Sub Committees on implementation of the National Action Plan of which the Minister for Interior is heading 11 sub committees. Every Sub- committee is constituted with representation from Armed Forces and Federal and Provincial Governments.

NACTA Helpline 1717 has already been established. The Minister asked Provincial Governments to establish dedicated Helpline for expeditious response to all kinds of threat. The National Action Plan was discussed at length in the meeting with recommendations on every point from participants representing all four provinces, AJK and GB.

The respective provincial governments gave their feedback on the proposed actions being taken under the NAP and potential irritants in execution of various functions in coordination with Federal Government. A comprehensive report on recommendations will be shared with the Prime Minister’s Office.

The Minister for Interior assured complete support and consistent unified coordination between the Federal and Provincial Government. The Minister added that the point of coordinating all these steps in the country would be NACTA, which has been revitalized to maintain and develop a central database of actionable intelligence and information of value, and its timely relay to concerned quarters.

Elaborating further the Minister said the Military is making huge sacrifices for the country. The civilian side must also play their due role. The menace of militancy and extremism can only be tackled through re-vitalized governance and proactive approach from the Federal and Provincial Governments by involving the general public through awareness.

Every Pakistan must play his or her due role and make a contribution in the fight against terror. It is a fight, not for any political gain or between the Provincial or Federal Government or about official or unofficial divide. It is a fight for the security and future of Pakistan and history will not spare any complacency or lack of commitment at this juncture.
