Indian Major’s assault on civilian triggers protests in IOK

Srinagar, June 28, 2015 (PPI-OT):In occupied Kashmir, anti-India protest demonstrations were held in Pulwama against an Indian army officer assaulted a Public Call Office (PCO) owner in the town. Witnesses said that Sajjad Ahmad, a resident of Rahmoo running a PCO, was beaten by a Major of 53 Rashtriya Rifles over a trivial issue.

Sajjad fell unconscious after the assault and was taken to district hospital Pulwama by the locals. The assault triggered massive anti-India protests in the town. A group of protesters took Sajjad in a procession to the office of Deputy Commissioner, Pulwama, to seek action against the army officer.

Chanting slogans “Indian Army terrorism not acceptable” and “We want freedom”, the protesters also blocked the road for hours. Deputy Superintendent of Police told media that a case had been registered against the culprit.
