Islamabad, June 07, 2021 (PPI-OT):India under Narendra Modi is becoming a big threat to the global community as yet another case of smuggling of huge quantity of highly radioactive uranium has surfaced, once again, in India’s Jharkhand state within a span of few weeks.
A report released by Kashmir Media Service said that 7 people have been arrested by Jharkhand police for possessing and planning to sell ‘mineral uranium’ in black market. Illegal sale of uranium in Jharkhand is the 2nd time that the highly radioactive material has been seized this year in India. In May this year, Maharashtra police confiscated uanium worth about $2.9 million from 2 persons.
12 cases relating to seizure of high quality uranium have been reported in India since 1994. Reports about illegal uranium trade in India is a matter of deep concern as Indian government has almost lost its control, if not connived, to check the incidents of uranium theft. The fresh incident has deepened the impression that New Delhi has no fool proof security measures around its nuclear facilities.
The report ridiculed that despite having faltering N-safety status, India is still lobbying to secure the Nuclear Suppliers Group membership. With such weak N-security system, New Delhi, in fact, doesn’t qualify to be included in the NSG.
The report suggested that US, France and other N-capable states should rethink of providing civil nuclear technology to irresponsible India as irresponsible behaviour of Modi-led dispensation has risked the world security. The IAEA should sanction India for irresponsibly handling nuclear material.
