India betrayed J and K people on referendum, says Andhra MP

New Delhi, February 25, 2016 (PPI-OT):The member of Lok Sabha (lower house of Indian Parliament) from Tirupati city of Andhra Pradesh, Varaprasad Rao Velagapalli, has said that the successive Indian governments have repeatedly betrayed the people of Jammu and Kashmir by not fulfilling the promise of referendum.

Varaprasad Rao Velagapalli, who represents the YSR Congress Party, said this while participating in a short duration discussion in the Lok Sabha on the functioning of universities in India, including the recent incidents at Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru University and Hyderabad University.

“Let us get back to the history. Repeatedly we have betrayed them (people of J and K). Wherever there is a majority of Muslims, we are supposed to give it to the other side. We have not given it. Thereafter we have promised a referendum…we have not given it,” he said. It is to mention here that students of JNU and Hyderabad Universities had recently staged demonstrations in support of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
