Srinagar, July 29, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, Grand Mufti of Kashmir, Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam, has urged India not to play with fire by fiddling with Article 35A as the move will trigger a public uprising across the territory. The Grand Mufti while reacting to the media reports about Indian government’s plan to change the special status of Jammu and Kashmir through amendment in its constitution in a statement issued in Srinagar said that tinkering with the Article 35A would have serious repercussions. He said that any misadventure by New Delhi would be opposed, tooth and nail.
Indian police have started collecting details of mosques, Imams and their managements across the Kashmir valley. In this regard, an order has been issued by Senior Superintendent of Police, Srinagar, to zonal superintendents of police directing them to provide lists of mosques along with all necessary details falling in their respective jurisdictions. The order, which is being widely circulated on social media, has added to the speculation that New Delhi might have plans to do away with Article 35A, which gives special rights to the IOK residents.
In view of strong resistance against India’s plan to abrogate Article 35A, a curfew plan mock drill was jointly conducted by Indian army, police, paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force in Poonch town. Barbed wires were laid on the roads and streets and forces kept a close vigil on all the pedestrians during the drill.
Meanwhile, forceful anti-India protest demonstrations were held in Banihal area of Jammu region against increasing brutalities of Indian forces on local population. The protesters blocked Jammu-Srinagar highway for hours and shouted anti-India, pro-freedom and pro-Pakistan slogans. They complained that Indian forces barged into their houses and tortured and harassed the inmates. The protesters said that the troops also subjected a local youth to ruthless torture in the area, today.
An Indian soldier committed suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle during duty hours in Chuntimulla area of Bandipore district. The incident raised the number of such deaths among Indian troops and police personnel to 439 since January 2007. In another such incident, an Indian soldier was injured when his service rifle went off accidentally in Panzagam area of Shopian district.
