Srinagar, July 12, 2015 (PPI-OT):In occupied Kashmir, the authorities have detained Hurriyet leadership to prevent them from leading a joint rally in Srinagar, tomorrow, to mark the Kashmir Martyrs’ Day. The veteran Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani and Hurriyet leader, Shabbir Ahmad Shah and Nayeem Ahmad Khan were already under house arrest while the All Parties Hurriyet Conference (APHC) Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Chairman, Mohammad Yasin Malik and the Gilani-led forum spokesman, Ayaz Akbar were placed under house arrest on Sunday. The leaders had called for a rally from Jamia Masjid to Naqshband Sahib in Srinagar, tomorrow.
Meanwhile, the Hurriyet leaders for the first time in 25 years have not called for a general strike on Martyrs’ Day in view of the fasting month of Ramadan. It was on 13th July in 1931 when the Dogra troops killed 22 Kashmiris, one after the other, outside the Central Jail in Srinagar. They had gathered in the jail premises to attend the court proceedings against one, Abdul Qadeer, who had asked the Kashmiri people to defy the Dogra rule.
