Islamabad, June 14, 2021 (PPI-OT): Senate resumed its session at the parliament house in Islamabad today with Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani in the chair. Opening the debate on the Finance Bill, 2021, Opposition Leader in the House Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani urged the government to take every possible step for protection and empowerment of smaller provinces.
He said more funds should be diverted for development of less developed areas to bring economic stability across Pakistan. Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani said salaries of the government employees should be increased in proportion to the inflation. Taking the floor, leader of the House Shahzad Waseem said the newly presented budget is people-centric that focuses inclusive growth, carrying special incentives for export sector to promote local industry.
Shahzad Waseem said urban households would be provided interest free business loans up to 500,000 rupees and 2 million rupees for house construction. He said farmers would be provided similar loans of 150,000 rupees for every crop and 200,000 rupees for leasing tractors and other farming equipment and machinery.
Taking part in the discussion, Sadia Abbasi said the government should rationalize repayments of borrowing, resolve crisis of circular debt and reduce electricity charges through improving transmission and distribution system. Senator Dr. Zarqa Taimur said for the first time in the history of the country, PTI government started around 260 programs under the flagship social protection program Ehsaas. The House will meet again tomorrow (Tuesday) at 4pm.
