Syed Tariq Fatemi meets Deputy Special Representative of Japan for Afghanistan and Pakistan

Islamabad, February 12, 2015 (PPI-OT): Ambassador Yasushi Misawa, Deputy Special Representative of Japan for Afghanistan and Pakistan called on the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs, Syed Tariq Fatemi on 11 February, 2015.

The two sides exchanged views on the evolving situation in Afghanistan in the wake of ongoing political, security and economic transitions in that country. The SAPM apprised Mr. Misawa of the new phase that had begun in Pakistan-Afghanistan relations, and said that the leadership in the two countries was committed to transforming that bilateral relationship into result oriented cooperation, with special emphasis on political engagement, security and counter-terrorism cooperation, trade and commercial interaction, and regional cooperation.

The SAPM briefed Mr. Misawa on Pakistan’s counter terrorism efforts, manifested in Operation Zarb-e-Azb, that is targeting all terrorists, irrespective of their origin or orientation. He underscored the need for deepening of Pakistan-Japan coordination on Afghanistan.

During the meeting, both sides also held in-depth discussions on the entire gamut of Pak-Japan bilateral relations and deliberated on the various possibilities of deepening existing ties in diverse areas including trade, investment, education, energy and cultural cooperation.
