Gilani calls for shutdown in IHK on Jan 26

Srinagar, January 19, 2013 (PPI-OT): The veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani has called for complete shutdown in occupied Kashmir on 26th January, the Indian Republic Day. Syed Ali Gilani in a statement issued in Srinagar said that New Delhi had no moral or constitutional right to celebrate its Republic Day in the occupied territory as it had denied the Kashmiri people their right to self-determination.

He said that the Kashmiris neither had any sort of prejudice or enmity against India or its people nor did they dislike its fortune, but it had never honoured its word with regard to referendum in Jammu and Kashmir. “We wish that our demand of self-determination be accorded due regard and people be provided an opportunity to express their aspiration to decide their political destiny and future,” he added.

The veteran Hurriyet leader while paying glowing tributes to martyrs of Gaw Kadal, Handwara and Kupwara appealed the people to observe shutdown on January 21, 25 and 27, at these places and adjoining areas to commemorate martyrdom anniversary of these martyrs. He also urged the international bodies to investigate the gruesome incidents and carnages and take action as per norms and law against the Indian troops involved in war crimes in the occupied territory.
