French Ambassador calls on National Assembly Speaker

Islamabad, March 09, 2016 (PPI-OT):Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has said that Pakistan-France partnership is highly imperative for fight against terrorism and extremism and improving governance. He outlined Pakistan’s commitment for fostering an enduring partnership and the value Pakistan attaches to its relations with France. He was speaking to French Ambassador to Pakistan Mrs. Martine Dorance who called on him at Parliament House, Islamabad on Wednesday.

The Speaker informed that Pakistan’s Parliament is first in the world to establish a dedicated secretariat for Sustainable Development Goals and also the first ever Parliament to be completely powered by Solar energy. He apprised the Ambassador regarding the Pakistan-France Friendship group established in National Assembly of Pakistan and urged for stronger inter-Parliamentary relations and regular exchange of Parliamentary delegations. The Speaker urged for stronger Pak-French partnership for fostering an inclusive and robust democracy in Pakistan.

The Speaker outlined that Pakistan is the France’s second largest trading partner in South Asia and Pakistan-France relation derives its strength from people-to-people contacts. Sardar Ayaz Sadiq urged for expansion and diversification of trade relations and strengthening of “Pakistan-France Business Alliance”. He expressed gratitude on behalf of Pakistani public for France’s generous assistance to Pakistan. The Speaker urged for more robust cooperation in scientific research, energy, environment, education, livestock and governance.

The French Ambassador Mrs. Martine Dorance highly appreciated solarisation of Pakistan’s parliament building and establishment of SDG secretariat at National Assembly of Pakistan. She added that Pakistan’s advances and contribution in global war on terror deserves candid appreciation and assured the Speaker that France will continue to support for this collective cause.

Mrs Dorance expressed satisfaction with Pakistan’s progress in strengthening democracy and human rights in Pakistan and reinforced commitment of France for partnering with Pakistan in enhancing capacity of civilian institutions. She also endorsed expansion of cooperation in energy, education, environment and agriculture. She added that France-Pakistan cooperation is highly crucial for tackling evolving challenges in the region and beyond.
