Federal Planning Minister approves 300 MW coal-fired power project, instructs concerned authorities to complete project in 2025

Islamabad, January 04, 2023 (PPI-OT):Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, Prof. Ahsan Iqbal has issued instructions to the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, Power Division, Gwadar Port Authority and China Overseas Ports Holding Company Limited approving the 300 MW coal-fired power project in Gwadar. That they ensure 100 percent power consumption for this project so that there is no loss to the national exchequer while directing to complete the project in 2025.

These views were expressed by the Federal Minister while approving the 300 MW coal-fired power project on Tuesday. The meeting was attended by Chairman COPHCL, Chairman Gwadar Port Authority GPA and other relevant stakeholders. The project was launched in 2016 under the China Pakistan Economic Corridor CPEC with the aim of improving local power supply and the project will help gradually address the existing economic development and urban construction issues in the Gwadar region.

Last week, the Federal Minister had directed China Company to provide accurate power demand for Gwadar Free Zone and share 10-year power consumption plan by Gwadar Free Zone Company for 300 MW coal fired power project in Gwadar. Correct use of electricity can be established.

It should be noted that all major projects under China Pakistan Economic Corridor CPEC in Gwadar including Gwadar Power Plant, New Gwadar International Airport Project in Gwadar, China Pak Friendship Hospital, China Pak Technical and Vocational Institute Gwadar, Gwadar East Bay Expressway Project, Gwadar Free Zone and Gwadar Port will become a shining pearl in the region.

The federal minister further said that the current government is completing the CPEC projects rapidly and in this regard, strong measures are being taken on the instructions of Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif. He said that the current government had revived all the CPEC projects since coming to power in April this year.

It should be remembered that in 2022, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif visited China and assured his counterpart that the current government’s top priority is the revival of CPEC projects. During the Joint Cooperation Committee JC held in October last year, the countries agreed to revive several development projects.
