Dr Qasim Fakhtoo completes 23 years in jail

Srinagar, February 05, 2016 (PPI-OT): While Pakistanis are observing solidarity with the oppressed people of occupied Kashmir, today, the illegally detained Hurriyet leader and President of Muslim Deeni Mahaz (MDM), Dr Muhammad Qasim Fakhtoo, completes 23 years in jail. The MDM in a statement in Srinagar paid glowing tributes to the steadfastness of its Chairman during his illegal imprisonment.

The party General Secretary, Mohammad Maqbool Butt addressing a public gathering in Srinagar said that the resolve shown by Dr Fakhtoo during all these years was exemplary. He said that India and its stooges considered Dr Qasim as a threat to the Indian occupation, therefore, they were keeping him behind the bars. He said that the Indian authorities were not releasing Dr Fakhtoo despite the fact that he had spent a period more than a life term in the jail. He appealed to the people to offer special prayers for Dr Fakhtoo and other Kashmiris languishing in different prisons.

It is to mention here that Dr Muhammad Qasim Fakhtoo was arrested on February 5, 1993, in a fake murder case. He has not been released despite the recommendations of different committees and review boards constituted by the Indian government. Instead, the Indian Supreme Court in a verdict stated that life imprisonment means that the detainee will be kept behind the bars till he is alive.
