Srinagar, April 15, 2016 (PPI-OT):In occupied Kashmir, the puppet authorities continued to impose curfew and other restrictions in Srinagar, Handwara and Kupwara on the third consecutive day, today, to prevent people from staging protests against the recent killing of four innocent civilians by Indian Army personnel in Kupwara district.
Two youth, Mohammad Iqbal and Nayeem Qadir Butt, and an aged woman, Raja Begum, were killed when the troops opened indiscriminate fire on the people who were protesting against the molestation of a girl by the troops in Handwara area of the district on Tuesday. On more youth, Jahangir Ahmad Wani, was shot dead by the troops by firing upon a demonstration at Drugmulla in the district on Wednesday.
The puppet authorities deployed Indian troops and police personnel in strength in all major towns of the territory to forestall the protests against the killings. The Chairman of All Parties Hurriyet Conference, Syed Ali Gilani, and Hurriyet leaders, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik, had given a call for peaceful protests across the territory after Juma prayers, today.
The puppet authorities have put all Hurriyet leaders under house arrest or behind the bars to prevent them from visiting the families of the martyrs and expressing solidarity with them. The authorities have also suspended the Mobile Internet service to stop people from sharing information about the situation in the territory.
Meanwhile, Hurriyet leader Firdous Ahmed Shah, in a statement in Srinagar strongly condemned the imposition of restrictions in the territory and crackdown on pro-freedom leaders. He deplored that on one hand, Indian troops were murdering innocent civilians, while on the other people were not being allowed to mourn the killing of their dear ones.
