Consulate General of Malaysia organizes flag hoisting ceremony in conjunction with Malaysia’s Independence Day

Karachi, August 31, 2015 (PPI-OT): Malaysian Consulate General in Karachi organizing the flag hoisting ceremony in conjunction with Malaysia’s 58 Independence Day which been celebrated on 31 Aug 2015. The Consul General of Malaysia His Excellency Mr Ismail Mohamad Bkri is his speech during the ceremony stated that when our first Prime Minister, Tunku Abdul Rahman declared Tanah Melayu or known as Malaya back then, independent on 31 August 1957, many belittled and expected Malaya would not survive without British help. But we have proven the detractors wrong. Malaysia now not only met, but even exceeded our own expectations.

The Consul General said that Malaysia is on track to become a fully developed nation in 5 years’ time. Nonetheless, Malaysia’s success does not come overnight. Sound economic and development policies have been set in place since Malaysian flag was first hoisted. These policies were then refined and enhanced further as Malaysia progresses. It must be noted that stable and strong political structure also played a crucial part in Malaysia’s success.

“Achieving developed nation status is not solely based on economic and technological progress. It also needs progress in social, cultural, intellectual and spiritual fields. To achieve these, it is pertinent that enhancement of ethics and integrity become part of the society’s culture. Only when these values and norms are in place, we can sustain our successes and enhance the people’s well-being. At the same time, the first world infrastructure facilities that we possess would not be wasted or misused, and the third world mentality can be eradicated once and for all” said the Consul General of Malaysia.

He further elaborated that Malaysia’s successes would not have been possible without the commitment, contribution and effort of the leaders and more importantly, the people. Hence, the theme of this year’s Independence Day celebration, sehati sejiwa (literally means one heart one soul) reflects the solidarity, understanding, togetherness and humanity of all Malaysians.

Malaysia is practically a melting pot, where people of various races come together and co-exist. While majority of Malaysians are Muslims, we can find Hindus, Buddhists, Sikhs, Christians and many others practice their religion freely. Unity therefore, is a matter of great importance as they work together in building their nation and preserve it for future generation.

The Consul General said “The integration of Malaysians living in a coherent unity has enabled Malaysia to prosper and its people to live in harmony. The harmony and peace enjoyed over the years should be sustained so that our grandchildren could enjoy the fruits of our success. Patriotism needs to be nurtured and embedded in the younger generation so that the love for country and respect for each other will always be omnipresent.” The Consul General of Malaysia closed his speech by thanking Pakistani who had supported Malaysia and he believed that the relationship between Malaysia and Pakistan will be further strengthen as two brotherly Muslim countries share many similar values.
