Chinese Firm donates schoolbag packages among students of Sindh Education Foundation Supported Schools

Karachi, September 08, 2016 (PPI-OT):Sindh Education Foundation (Govt. of Sindh) hosted an event to mark distribution of schoolbag packages by Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) among students of Shaheed Jam Fellowship School, supported by the Foundation under SEF Assisted Schools (SAS) Program.

Mr. Mu Yongpeng (Acting Consul General of China in Karachi), Mr. Wang Zhihua (Counsellor of Commercial Division, General Consulate of China in Karachi), Mr. Gao Yanhua (Secretary, General Consulate of China in Karachi), Ms. Li Xiaomeng (Secretary, Commercial Division, General Consulate of China in Karachi); Mr. He Shenghu (CEO, ICBC), Mr. Xu Qiang (Head of HR and GA Dept., ICBC), Mr. Yu Rui (Deputy Head of HR and GA Dept. ICBC), Mr. Muhammad Nadeem (Manager of HR and GA Dept., ICBC); Ms. Naheed S. Durrani (Managing Director, SEF), Dr. Khalil-ur-Rahman (Director, HR, SEF), Mr. Rafique Mustafa Shaikh (Director, Programs and Planning), and Ms. Shahpara Rizvi (Director, Technical Units) were present on the occasion.

The ceremony was held at the SEF Head Office in which Mr. Yongpeng and Mr. Shenghu distributed200 school packages comprising school bag, lunch box, water bottle and pencil box among children in the presence of SEF management, teachers, school operator and media representatives.

While speaking on the occasion, Mr. Yongpeng reaffirmed pledge to help strengthen Pakistan’s economy through various mega projects. He specially referred to CPEC being one of the major economic project of an extremely high magnitude was critical for the economic wellbeing of the country as well as the entire region, he said.

The Acting Consul General further said, “I have served for so many years in Pakistan that I feel more Pakistani than Chinese. During my long stay here, I have been impressed by the intelligence of the people”. The smile of the faces of these children symbolizes a bright future of the nation.”He also told the forum that support from Chinese companies would increase in the near future in Education sector as well.

Mr. He Shenghu, CEO of ICBC briefed the participants on establishment of ICBC in 1984 and its restructuring to a join-stock limited company in 2005. CSR initiatives are an integral part of the management strategy and social development programs of the bank. ICB’s CEO appreciated the role of the SEF saying, SEF has been making its contribution (in the Education sector) and is committed to educating and empowering children and communities by improving the educational facilities.

Outlining ICBC’s future cooperation with SEF, Mr. Shenghu said, “ICBC Pakistan will continue to be a partner of the SEF in this cause and will help spread the light of education, especially, in remote areas of Sindh Province.” SEF Managing Director Ms. Naheed S. Durrani expressed gratitude to ICBC Management and Acting Consul General of China in Karachi for extending support, mentioning it as making a difference.

She informed the esteemed guests about role of the SEF in raising increasing access and educational standards in the rural areas of Sindh through public-private partnership. “We have brought about transformational changes in the partnership framework of SEF, aiming at bringing about quality of teaching, infrastructure and physical environment of schools,” Ms. Durrani said. “We are thankful to Sindh Government’s Education and Literacy Department for their complete support and trust in the Foundation’s strength as a major stakeholder in providing free quality education in every nook and corner of Sindh.”

She further added, “SEF’s portfolio would expand to embrace 3,098 schools and 644,482 students through different programs. We would highly appreciate and request corporate sector to come and support these schools which are providing quality education with nominal financial support. The MD stated, “We would encourage corporate sector to support establishment of learning corners or libraries in SEF supported schools.”
