Peshawar, December 11, 2013 (PPI-OT): The Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Muhammad Shehzad Arbab has said that the basic purpose of government is to serve the nation that is why the PTI government according to its comprehensive reforms agenda to transform government into a true service entity for the citizens has constituted working groups in provincial departments to achieve the objectives.
The Reforms Implementation Cell (RIC) had also been created to coordinate the efforts of working groups to accomplish the mission of the government. He said reforms agenda was aimed at redressing the identified weaknesses, but also to enhance the effectiveness of the decentralization introduced through the 18th Constitutional Amendment and to bring government more closer to the people.
The hurdles between government and people will never be removed until strong steps are taken to eliminate it. This he said while addressing the workshop regarding “Retreat on Reforms” at Peshawar on Tuesday.
MPA Arif Yousuf, Special Assistant to Chief Minister on Higher Education, Mushtaq Ghani and Additional Chief Secretary also attended the workshop. On this occasion, the Chief Secretary in his opening remarks said that PTI led government, according to its reforms agenda initially selected four sectors as priority interventions i.e. education, health, local government and e-governance.
However, continuing its reforms agenda, the government also constituted working groups in other sectors i.e. higher education, minerals, energy and power, industries, commerce and technical education, excise and taxation, sports, and tourism, transport and mass transit. He said that these working groups had finalized their reforms recommendations which were required to be transformed into actionable plans so as to ensure the achievements of the reforms in a timely manner.
He further stated that the working groups had flexibility to establish sub working groups for specified areas. He urged responsible groups as well as heads of provincial departments to play their vital role to achieve the aims of reforms agenda, as it was the responsibility of government to serve and protect its nation, he concluded.
