Braid chopping: Gilani urges IOK people to form committees

Srinagar, October 15, 2017 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) Chairman, Syed Ali Gilani has urged people to constitute Mohalla committees comprising youth volunteers and persons with credibility to check the braid-chipping menace.

Syed Ali Gilani in a statement issued in Srinagar said that the ugly incidents had created extreme gloomy situation for Kashmiri women and girls. For the last one month, fear psychosis has been created and people are facing threat to their dignity and honour, he added.

He said, “Nothing good is expected from ruling elite and as such everyone feels scared about the safety and honour. Although it was their moral responsibility of the rulers to ensure safety, dignity and respect of every citizen, they miserably failed.”

Syed Ali Gilani said Instead of ensuring the safety, authorities conceived their devilish tricks like operation Catch and kill, Operation Ghost and now braid chopping like horrible operation. “All these tricks were aimed at breaking our resolve and suppress our freedom sentiments. But I am sure we will defeat all their evil designs if we maintain discipline.”

He said, “Any suspicious person, if nabbed, should be handed over to reliable and trustworthy committee members and his statement recorded so that authorities do not get any chance to save these criminals. Meanwhile, prominent religious scholar, Qazi Ahmed Yasir in a statement in Srinagar said, “Braid chopping is a mere pressure tactic and scaring technique which is bound to fail.” He said the police rather than making efforts to investigate the matter and stop the incidents has already concluded that it is a mere mass hysteria, which is regrettable.
