Srinagar, December 03, 2017 (PPI-OT):In occupied Kashmir, a young political activist and Islamic scholar from Aloosa village in Bandipora, Sheikh Danish Malik, has been languishing in jail for the past one year despite quashing of his detention under draconian law, Public Safety Act, by the High Court. Sheikh Danish Malik was arrested by the Indian police in November 2016 during the mass uprising triggered by the extrajudicial killing of popular youth leader, Burhan Wani, and was booked under the PSA.
The family members of Sheikh Danish Malik in Bandipora told a local daily that High Court on November 14, 2017 quashed the second PSA slapped on him in March, but he still remains behind the bars as the puppet authorities are not releasing him.
An MBA from University of Kashmir (2014), Danish Malik worked as a marketing manager in North Kashmir for a private firm, but his political associations brought trouble for him. He is a member of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir and an orator delivering Friday sermons in the district.
In his arrest, his family, which includes his parents and grandparents, has lost its only bread-earner. Danish was arrested by Indian police from Sonarwani village where he was delivering a sermon. After his arrest, he was charged in nine FIRs and detained under the PSA. After slapping PSA on him, the authorities shifted him from Bandipora to Kot Bhalwal jail in Jammu. The High Court quashed his first PSA in March and Danish was released from jail in April but was immediately re-arrested by the police while he was still in the jail premises.
He was later handed over to Bandipora police, which detained him under same charges as earlier and slapped another PSA on him. He was again taken to Kot Bhalwal Jail in April. He is presently logged in Srinagar Central Jail. Danish’s grandfather, Abdul Gaffar Malik described his detention as political vengeance and added that the family has been victimized by the authorities in the past also.
