APHC condemns suppression, repression in IOK

Srinagar, May 02, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has condemned the worst policy of suppression and repression, perpetrated by the Indian forces against the younger generation in particular and the common people in general.

The APHC in a statement issued in Srinagar regretted the brazen denial of political space and destroying the pillars of democracy with respect to human rights guaranteed by the United Nations. Freedom of expression, right to get education, right to live at liberty and adopt any religion and right to travel have remained a distant dream for a resident of Kashmir which has any link with the ongoing movement for right to self-determination, it deplored.

It said the widespread arrests of youth at Pulwama and Shopian in the garb of so-called parliamentary election process and creating a war-like atmosphere during the cordon and search operations, at night hours and in the broad-day-light have rendered Kashmir a hell-like place in the region.

The APHC said opening the flood gates of prisons in Kashmir and illegal detention of Hurriyat leaders and activists in addition to the young students in the nook and corner of the territory is the worst type of state terrorism, which has been adapted to punish the people of Kashmir for their legitimate demand of right to self-determination.

Castigating these repressive measures to test the patience of the freedom-loving people of Kashmir, the APHC expressed its grave concern over the worsening health conditions of all the prisoners of conscience languishing in jails of India and the occupied territory. Denial of basic amenities as per jail manual to the detainees and inhuman attitude of the jail authorities meted out to them is a grave violation of prisoners’ rights, it added.

The APHC paid rich tributes to the steadfastness of prisoners of conscience including Mohammad Yasin Malik, Masarat Aalam Butt, Shabbir Ahmad Shah, Dr Hameed Fyaz, Dr Shafi Shariyati, Dr Muhammad Qasim Fakhtoo, Aasiya Andrabi, Fahmeeda Sofi, Naheeda Nasreen, Dr G M Butt, Altaf Ahmad Shah, Ayaz Akbar, Peer Saifullah, Raja Meraj-ud-din Kalwal, Mohammad Yousuf Falahi, Shahid-ul-Islam, Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Syed Shahid Yousuf, Syed Shakeel Ahmad, Zahoor Ahmad Watali, Mushtaq Ahmad Hurrah, Bashir Kashmiri, Nazir Ahmad Sheikh and Mohammad Ayub Mir.
