Anger continues to grip IOK on 93rd day

Srinagar, November 05, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, uncertainly, people’s anger and resentment continued to grip the Kashmir Valley and Muslim majority areas of Jammu and Ladakh regions on the 93rd consecutive day, today.

Military lockdown coupled with complete ban on internet and prepaid mobile services have pushed the territory into the Stone Age. As part of an ongoing civil disobedience movement, people continue to keep their shops and business establishments closed and shun schools and offices. Public transport also remains off the roads. Indefinite strike by lawyers continued to affect work at the High Court and subordinate courts in all parts of Jammu region for the fifth consecutive day, today.

The lawyers are protesting against the clipping of judicial powers by the Indian government. A report citing fresh police data said that about 8,000 people, including political leaders, have been rounded up in the Kashmir Valley in the past three months. However, the actual number is far more than claimed in the police report.

Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir Muslim League in a statement issued in Srinagar appealed to the masses to keep an eye on the Indian collaborators who can harm the just cause of the Kashmiri people for their petty personal interests. The party warned the collaborators of BJP and RSS of very severe consequences. The statement urged the Kashmiri people to expose those who would be cooperating with BJP and RSS in furthering their Hindutva agenda in occupied Kashmir.

Kashmiris on both sides of the Line of Control and world over will observe the Jammu Martyrs’ Day, tomorrow, to reaffirm the resolve to continue the martyrs’ mission till the realization of their inalienable right to self-determination. Hundreds of thousands of Kashmiris were massacred by the forces of Maharaja Hari Singh, Indian army and Hindu extremists in different parts of Jammu region while they were migrating to Pakistan during the first week of November in 1947.

Indian troops during an ongoing cordon and search operation arrested a youth in Kishtwar town. The troops barged into a house in Sangrambat area of the town and arrested one Asif Mustufa and damaged the house. On the other hand, the BJP government in India is planning to change the Muslim-sounding names of different places of occupied Kashmir and rechristen them after Hindu leaders and politicians to completely distort the religious identity of the territory.

The government is not ready to even spare names of pro-India Kashmiri politicians. For example, Sheikh Abdullah Cricket Stadium, Srinagar is being renamed after India’s first deputy prime minister, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. The names of several streets and roads of city centre around Lal Chowk would also be renamed after known Hindu personalities of India.

Kashmir student and writer, Anas Hashmi, in a video making rounds on social media said that Modi-led Indian government was promoting fascism and Nazism in occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The Kashmiri student said that the people of Kashmir would never surrender to brutal decisions imposed by New Delhi on the Kashmiri people no matter they are dubbed terrorists or anything else by India.
