AJK on path of progress and prosperity: Masood Khan

Islamabad, August 23, 2020 (PPI-OT): President Azad Jammu and Kashmir Sardar Masood Khan has said that the Government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJ and K) is striving to provide basic amenities like education, health, livelihood and road infrastructure to the people of Azad Kashmir.

He said the Karot Hydro Power Project would add 720 MW to the National Power Grid in the next year after its completion thereby helping cater to any foreseeable electricity shortfall in the country. The President made these remarks while talking to a delegation from Sehnsa, Kotli led by former Advisor to Government of AJ and K Sardar Bashir Pehalwan, who called on him in Jammu and Kashmir House.

President AJ and K told the delegation that under social corporate responsibility (CSR), the Karot Hydro Power Company would construct a 20 km road for the local populace along with enhancing the infrastructure of schools, health units, buildings, and further provide livelihood opportunities to the local populace.

They requested the President to ensure Karot Hydro Power Company to start and complete all these identified welfare projects before completion of construction by the end of 2021. The President assured the delegation that he would discuss the issues raised by them with the officials concerned and would get them resolved.

President Masood was also apprised by the delegation for the delay in the construction of Potha to Holar main road. The delegation requested the President to direct PWD officials for taking notice of this negligence and ensure the early and timely completion of the project by the company so that thousands of passengers who travel every day on this road could avail of traveling facilities comfortably. The delegation invited the President to visit Sehnsa; which he accepted. The delegation appreciated President’s efforts to raise the Kashmir issue both nationally and internationally.

Later in the day, Syed Shoukat Ali Shah Minister for Food Govt. of AJ and K, called on the President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Both leaders discussed the latest situation of IIOJK. Mr. Shah also discussed with the President issues relating to Kashmiri refugees settled in Pakistan. Keeping in view the precarious situation in IIOJK, Mr. Shah anticipated the flux of refugees from IIOJK to Azad Kashmir and Pakistan in the near future for which he said, our governments should be prepared.
