2,500 HR cases pending with defunct IOK HRC

Srinagar, July 09, 2016 (PPI-OT):In occupied Kashmir, about 2500 cases related to human rights violations are pending with the Human Rights Commission (HRC) of the territory since June 2014.

The Commission is functionless as it is without members and chairman.

Officials said no activity is going on in the Commission and about 2,500 cases are pending with it. “Over 500 fresh cases relating to human rights violations have piled up in the Commission in last two years,” they said. The commission has been defunct after its acting chairman Rafiq Fida retired in June 2014.

According to aggrieved petitioners, the callous approach of respective regimes has restricted the working of the Commission just to extend dates of hearing of the cases.

The High Court has slammed the puppet regime recently due to its callous approach in appointing faculty to the commission. It has directed Law Secretary to appear in person along with records to clarify why the authorities violated the law by recommending an ineligible candidate for the post of HRC Chairman.

“The deadline given by High Court has already ended and there is no headway on the appointment.
