2-day Kashmir seminar in Islamabad from tomorrow

Srinagar, May 31, 2016 (PPI-OT):A two-day international Kashmir seminar will commence in Islamabad from tomorrow to deliberate upon global dimensions of the Kashmir dispute and current Indian plans to suppress Kashmir liberation movement.

The seminar has been organized by the Mirpur University of Science and Technology. Those who reached Islamabad to attend the seminar include Agha Syed Hassan Al-Moosvi Al-Safvi, Zafar Akbar Butt, Narinder Khalsa, Shah Abbas, Zahid Maqbool, Touseef Mir, Arshie Javed, Basharat Hassan and others. Members European Parliament Amjad Bashir, Jan Zahardil and Members of UK Parliament Yasmin Qureshi and Ivan Lewis have reached Pakistan to participate in the deliberations.

APHC Chairman Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Shabbir Ahmad Shah, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Kashmir Bar President Mian Abdul Qayoom, Aasiya Andrabi and Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai were also invited. However, they would not be able to attend the event because Indian authorities have refused to give them travel documents. The authorities put Altaf Ahmad Shah and Ayaz Akbar under house arrest to prevent them from attending the seminar.

Prominent political leaders, legislators and academicians from Pakistan are also expected to attend the event. The seminar will discuss role of international community in resolving the Kashmir dispute and Indian machinations to change the demographic composition of Jammu and Kashmir.

On the other hand, in occupied Kashmir, top Hurriyet leaders, Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik have jointly called for peaceful protests on Friday and hoisting of black flags at all district and tehsil headquarters against the creation of separate colonies for Kashmiri Pandits and Indian army personnel in the territory.

In the United Kingdom, the heads of Kashmiri pro-freedom organisations and representatives of the British Kashmiri diaspora passed a memorandum at a meeting in Birmingham. They sought intervention of human rights organizations, heads of UK political parties, European Union, and Chairman of All Parties Parliamentary Group on Kashmir in Britain to stop rights abuses in occupied Kashmir. The leaders had come from various cities of the United Kingdom to attend the meeting.
