Srinagar, December 08, 2017 (PPI-OT):In occupied Kashmir, the Jammu and Kashmir Freedom Party held a peaceful demonstration, today, in Islamabad town of south Kashmir in connection with the World Human Rights Day to be observed on Sunday (December 10).
The protest was led by the party leader, Advocate Fayaz Ahmad Sodagar and was attended by party activists and office bearers. Holding placards and banners, the protesters urged the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) to ensure immediate release of ailing party Chairman, Shabbir Ahmed Shah, and all other Kashmiri political prisoners.
They impressed upon the world human rights bodies and activists to take cognizance of the gross human rights abuses being committed by the Indian forces’ personnel in every nook and corner of the occupied territory.
The protesters said at a time when world is observing Human Rights Day, parents in Kashmir are busy thinking how to get their wards out of police lock-ups. Men in uniform have made the life of people hell by arresting their wards and book them in fabricated cases, they added.
The protesters expressed concern over the plight of Shabbir Ahmed Shah and other Hurriyat leaders languishing in jails and are denied proper medical treatment. Stressing on the unconditional release of all such prisoners, the protesters said that hundreds of Kashmiris were languishing in jails only because of their political ideology.
Terming the denial of right to self-determination to the Kashmiris as the biggest violation of human rights, the protesters said that the time had come when New Delhi must accept the realities of the Kashmir dispute and take steps towards its settlement in accordance with the Kashmiris’ aspirations.
