Karachi, July 08, 2017 (PPI-OT):Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has said that the on-going development schemes launched under Rs10 billion Karachi package must be completed by the end of this month, “other-wise I would be become PD myself to complete them.”
This he said while presiding over a meeting to review the progress of on-going Karachi Package schemes and to allow start of schemes of new package here at CM House today. The meeting was attended by Local Government Minister Jam Khan Shoro, Chairman P and D Mohammad Waseem, Secretary Local Government Ramzan Awan, PD Karachi Package Niaz Soomro and Programme Manager Khalid Ahmed.
The chief minister in his opening remarks said that the recent heavy rains have slowed down the pace of ongoing development works in the city. “I want to start the stopped works with new zeal and zest so that they could be completed by the end of this month,” he said and went on saying that he would become himself PD to start work on the road from FTC to Metropole if the contractor failed to start it by the next 15 days, he warned.
Minister Local Government Jam Khan Shoro briefing the chief minister said that the work on upgradation of Pipri Filter Plant/pumping station started at Rs900 million has been completed by 50 percent. “The machinery has been ordered much earlier and it has started landing at the site,” he said and added that it would be completed as soon as full machinery is received.
He said that construction University road from Hassan Square launched for Rs884.231 million has been done by 95 percent. Only few portions of its footpaths are left and would be completed shortly. The chief minister appreciated that during the recent heavy rains water did not accumulate on the road but it drained out through the storm water drain constructed along the road sides. Talking about Rs832.003 million University Road from NED to Safoora Chowrangi, Mr Shoro said that it has been completed by 75 percent and work has been started on war footings just after rains.
PD of the package Niaz Soomro said that the work on construction of Rs200.680 million Mosmyat Road has been completed by 99 percent and only final touch ups are left. The work on Rs685.295 million Hub River Road has been completed by 85 percent while work on road from Surjani to Madinatul Hikmat, Karachi has been done by 90 percent. It has been started for RS912.245 million. He added that work on U-turn at Natha Khan Bridge for Rs70.5 million has recently been started. It is at the initial stage and would be taken up on war footings.
The other schemes in progress are Rs933.381 million Shahrah-e Faisal to Metropole on which 85 percent work has been completed while construction of the road from Baloch Colony Flyover towards Nursery have been completed by 92 percent. Reconstruction of Rs662.599 million has been done by 80 percent.
Replying to a question he said that Rehabilitation of Karachi Zoo launched for Rs184.560 million have been completed by 35 percent. On this the chief minister urged the local government to speed up work on the zoo. He also directed local government minister to complete Jahangir Park scheme as soon as possible. “I want to inaugurate it on August 14,” he said.
NEWS SCHEMES: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah said that under the new Karachi package 16 schemes would be started. He directed Chairman P and D Mohammad Waseem to expedite the approval work on the new schemes.
The new schemes as spelled out by the chief minister include construction of Road from Tank Chowrangi to Superhighway via Thadho Nala, reconstruction of Tipu Sultan Road from Shahrah-e-Faisal to Karsaz, construction of bridge at Tipu Sultan and Khalid Bin Waleed Road intersection at Shaheed-e-Millat Road, widening of Stadium Road, construction of Flyover at Lee Market, Lyari, construction of 12000 Road Landhi, improvement of Cantt station road, construction of Fowara Chowk to Garden to Abdullah Haroon Road; construction on Inter-change Intersection of Sunset Boulevard at Gizri Boulevard; construction of storm water drain from Star gate to Chakra Nalla, Shahrah-e-Faisal and construction of water supply line from Habib Bank to Baldia Town.
The chief minister appreciated the hard work of Local Government Minister Jam Khan Shoro and his team working on Karachi mega project. “On some schemes the pace of work is slow and it must be increased,” he said and added that he would shortly pay surprise visit of the schemes to be inaugurated by the end of this months. It may be noted that almost all the on-going schemes would be completed by the end of this month while the work on Submarine Chowrangi under pass would be done by the end of August.
