Karachi, August 25, 2016 (PPI-OT):The administration of Sohrab Goth Maweshi Mandi is confident to provide hassle free environment for the traders and buyers of sacrificial animals as the Asia’s biggest makeshift cattle market was officially inaugurated by the Muhammad Ali Malkani, Minister of Livestock and Fisheries Government of Sindh here on Thursday.
President, Malir Cantonment Board Qasim Changezi said: “It was not an easy task to organize a huge area into a purpose-developed environment so soon, but with all the help from the city administration and the provincial government, the mandi management was able to achieve all the goals set for this year.”
“We have made sure all steps taken for the facilitation of traders and people of this city are worked out to their fullest potential beforehand, and all shortcomings, which were reported during this period, are dealt with thoroughly. We are now confident that all will go fine as far as wellbeing and convenience of people and their livestock is concerned,” he said.
“I congratulate the administrator Maweshi Mandi, Jehangir Chaudhary and his team on completing this herculean task within given timeframe and I hope that they will be successful in managing the cattle market till Eid ul Azha providing more than satisfactory services to customers and traders,” he added.
Administrator Maweshi Mandi, Jehangir Chaudhary said this year Maweshi Mandi has been set up on an area of 950 acres in which 750 acres are reserved for cow mandi with total 26 blocks which include five VIP blocks for cattle from the farms; while markets for goats and camels have been set up on 200 acres. Traders from all over Pakistan have already started bringing in their animals at the cattle market and more than 150,000 animals have been brought into the market so far.
Mr. Chaudhary while giving details of arrangements at the Mandi said that ramps for offloading and loading of animals are set up at 50 places. Prayers place is organized at 45 points. All these facilities are cost-free. In addition, two-time water supply arrangement is made for the animals, while clean drinking water of superior quality brand is available for people directly from the company.
Toilets facility is available at 40 points in the mandi. Free lightening arrangement is made while CCTV cameras are installed for the security of people and their property. Also, parking facility is provided free of cost round the clock. Emergency services including ambulance and fire brigade are present 24 hours to meet any emergency efficiently and effectively.
Earlier, Muhammad Ali Malkani, Minister of Livestock and Fisheries Government of Sindh said that the Sindh government as well as the city government are helping the mandi administration to facilitate traders and people of this city.
He said that on the directives of Sindh governor Dr. Ishrat-ul-Ibad, veterinary doctors and paramedical staff appointed by Sindh Livestock and Animal Husbandry department is working in their designated camp in the Maweshi Mandi Sohrab Goth, Super Highway.
The team consists of 17 veterinary officers and 16 paramedical staff and stock assistants and at least five doctors will work in each of the three shifts round the clock in the cattle market to facilitate traders in inspection and treatment of their animals at the mandi until Eid day.
He said that it was an honour for Sindh and Karachi to host traders from all over Pakistan to this massive scale. “This highlights the economic importance of this city that traders find it more conducive and welcoming to sell their stock and benefit from the purchasing capacity of people of this city,” he added.
“I praise the administrator of Mandi for taking deep interest into the welfare of people to participate in buying and selling activity safely and I am sure that citizens will visit the cattle market with ease to purchase sacrificial animals this year,” he added.
