Probe demanded in allegations of irregularities in Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry

Islamabad, April 12, 2015 (PPI-OT): Patron Islamabad Chamber of Small Traders Shahid Rasheed Butt on Sunday demanded an independent inquiry into the allegations of wrongdoings levelled by the Businessman Panel against by United Business Group (UBG). The leadership of Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) has been ignoring merit which is resulting in complaints and declining image, he said.

It is widely believed that a group of businessmen has taken over the FPCCI for completion of personal agenda resulting in piling up of complaints, he said adding that a change in the Apex chamber after decades hasn’t improved anything.

He said that semi educated business leaders should take critical decisions about economy and lead delegations abroad to waste resources and make contingents a laughing-stock. Shahid Rasheed Butt said that sending unelected people, staff of the chambers and friends on foreign tours in the garb of importers is now being debated openly adding that collective interests have been compromised over personal gains.

Those involved in scams like embezzlement of millions in the construction of FPCCI Islamabad building enjoys full confidence of UBG leaders which is amazing, he remarked. Many top officials and Ambassadors have been ignoring invitations from FPCCI because they are pushed for contracts, visas and other benefits. He said that traders and industrialists will continue to establish their own associations for protection of their rights if FPCCI kept on operating a gang.
