Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says that it has confirmed information that Islamic State group leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi has been killed.
This was stated by Director of the Observatory, Rami Abdulrahman, while talking to a foreign news agency.
Russia had claimed in June that al-Baghdadi might have been killed in an air strike by its forces targetting a gathering of IS commanders on the outskirts of Syrian city of Raqqa.
However, Washington said it could not confirm the death while Western and Iraqi officials had also been skeptical about it.
