Successes achieved in war against terror: Sindh Governor

Karachi: Sindh Governor, Dr Ishrat Ul Ebad Khan, on Wednesday said the government of Pakistan, our armed forces and the people have attained significant successes in the war against terror. He was talking to the participants of the 41st PN Staff Course who called on him at the governor House here.

The Governor said that the personnel of armed forces, law enforcement agencies and the people also rendered great sacrifices in the fight against terror. The economy of the country also came under strain and thus a heavy price has been paid in the fight against terrorism. However, negative perception has been painted in the West and that this needs to be corrected.

Replying to various questions of the participants of the course, Dr Ishrat Ul Ebad Khan said that the government is undertaking steps for the development of the coastal areas. He said that foreign investors are also taking interest for investment in the development projects.

The Governor said that Karachi is the commercial hub of the country and the engine of the revenue generation. Some 60 percent of gas is produced in the province of Sindh. He stated that equal attention is being paid in the development process and distribution of resources in the rural and urban areas of Sindh.

Dr Ebad said that attention is also being paid towards the higher education and industrialization in the province. He stated that the communities in Sindh want to live in peace but there are certain elements that try to pit one against the other just for their ulterior motives.

Dr Ebad hailed the verdict of the Supreme Court with regard to the targeted killings in Karachi. A committee under the Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court is keeping an eye of on the situation in the metropolis.

He said that no party has any objection on the on-going operation in Karachi and that better results of this are coming to the fore. To another question, the Governor said there is quite a difference between local government system and commissionerate system.

Talks are continuing between the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and Pakistan People’s Party PPP and there is unanimity on some points. He said that a new system would be introduced by picking good points of the 1979 and 2001 systems.
